Ungstrup (11378), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 17, 2004 A clear dark red beer with a lasting light orange whipped cream head. The aroma is great hoppy - is it Northern Brewer? combined with alcohol, peach, oil, and caramel. The flavor is great too, with loads of hops and notes of alcohol, oil, grass, and peach before it end with a sharpness from the hops. The bitter bite on the tongue lasts for a long time. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 14, 2005 Sampled draught at the brewpub.
Clear dark amber, lively head. Rich hop aroma with grapefruit and lychee. The massive hoppiness is balanced by a generous amount of biscuity hops. This is a typical Southern California style one-track mega hop killer ale, and Nørrebro really manages to excel in this class. While for instance the smokey schwarz cannot compete to the Bamberg beers this beer would stand a comparison to the finest US microbrwes well. Papsoe (10432), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 22, 2005 (On tap) Deep amber colour, clear and filtered with a light brown head. Extreme bitterness from the loads of hops used here - my tongue feels numb after having this beer, and I presume I’ll be able to taste this the whole evening, probably the whole night too. It’s a great tasting beer, but the hops kills it’s more subtle features. Probably every hophead’s delight - but I’m more a malt person. 101004 Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jan 18, 2007 Dark golden-amber. Bright. Earthy, sticky nose accented by bright fruity (apricot, plum) and a hint of wood. Traces of alcohol also emerge. Intense bitterness, lots of piney, woody hop. Slightly sticky, but not so much that it detracts from the overall presentation of the brew. Alcohol cuts through a long, resiny bitter finish. Big brew, but with a sense of style and balance. Pretty good. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Dec 10, 2006 Updated: Sep 9, 2007Draught at brewpub (40 cL). Clear golden brown colour with white head. Fantastic flowery and hoppy smell. Complex taste of primarily hops. Aftertaste kicks in after a few seconds and blows you away - extremely bitter and long lasting - WOW.
Blind tasting of an almost one year old handbottle from tap, same batch as reviewed above, thanks to Papsoe. Pours golden copper, clear, with a lacing head. Heavy hoppy aroma, with a little caramel note. Flavour is heavy hoppy and with nice malt base. Clean hoppy flavour. Decent bitterness, interesting aging. 8-4-8-4-16
