Suppose it’s nice enough but the plum character is way stronger than anything like hops, malt, or anything else that really resembles a beer. Just too fruity and too sweet.

Cask - West Gate Inn (JDW), Canterbury. So perfumy and artificial all round, like potpourri. Just an all out sweetness, no bitterness, no body, no finish. Just about the only thing that resembles a beer is its colour. I struggled even with my 1/3 pint.

9th April 2008 Very sweet darkish brown ale. Very sweet and very plum fruity. A little bit of minerals and hops in the finish. Sweet!

Cask @ Brockley Barge, JDW. Nunhead SE4. Pours a clear amber color with a small creamy off-white head. Sweetish fruity plum aroma. Sweetish fruity dark fruit and plum flavor. Has a sweetish fruit plum finish.

Cask at Penderels Oak, Holborn 15 Nov 08. Golden colored. A small creamy tanned head. Sweet aroma of plums. Flavor is the same. Quite good - but not as a beer! Extremely sweet.

Cask, with Fin and Traci at The Crown Rivers, Heathrow. My last pint before flying back to the US. Warm copper pour, dense tan bubbles. Pleasant aroma of opening a bag of dried plums. Or prunes as they used to be before marketing people changed all that. Bright and a bit flowery. Flavor is dramatically, alarmingly sweet. Concentrated essence of raisins. The shocking edge to the sweetness softens as the glass progresses, and eventually... I don’t mind it. Very odd, but not without its own little sense of style. The Tiny Tim of beer.

Half pint at JWD real ale festival 08. Almost naked, deep mahogany body. Vague smell of dark fruits. Prominent plums throughout. Quaffable, but gets rather too sweet [Capitol in Dundee, 07.11.2008].
