(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 15 June 2007) Black colour with brief, pale brown head. Roasted nose with hints of smoke and tar, notes of liquorice, vanilla, blueberries, crowberries and juniper berries. Roasted, slightly tarry, taste with liquorice, crowberries and coffee with sugar. Drier, slightly smoky finish with a balanced hoppy bitterness. Medium to full body, oily texture. An old style porter with sweetish notes of wild berries. Definitely my kind of beer. And yet another impressive effort from Närke. 8/4/8/4/16=4.0 (Rerate: draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 25 Jan 2008) Tasting notes mainly the same, but now even better!

Almost black pour with a small off-white ring. A strange blend. Rather fruity, spicey and kinda woody with wild flowers, black tea and coffee roastiness intermingling. It develops a certain complexity indeed, but feels quite chaotic, oatmeal-like cereals drowned into spicey woodiness. Feeling a bit old this blend, not very lively at all. Peppery pears and orangey touches remove a good bit from the roast. Growing bitterness by the sips eventually come across mineral, salty and quite floral. The weak carbonation makes for a medium body that feels very cerealic and life lacking for a hoppy beer. A bit against the grain on this one. I didn’t find the excitement that affect others and found the balance quite lacking.

Black color with impressive big creamy head. Very nice aroma, roasted malt, vanilla, hop, a bit cheesy. Smooth texture, well malty, some sweetness, very well mixed, with roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, yeast. The final is well balanced, with a mix of all.
