Ober (1152), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Nov 3, 2009 Tap @ 1ste Boreft. A black colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma of dark roasted malts, with fruits and chocolate. The taste of chocolate and coffee with dark malts, with some fruits in the back. The aftertaste of dark chocolate. Another great Narke beer. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Nov 2, 2009 On tap, both 2007 and 2008 at BBF. Solid black body with thin brown head. Very malty and chocolate nose. Just delicious. Flavour also of malts, coffee, chocolate. Just rolled down the throat like a sauced-up chocolate malt. Delicious. Frovigalning (379), , Sweden Nov 1, 2009 It poured a pitch black liquid with a small light brown foam. Heavy smell of chocolate, soy sauce and burned toast. Also a very heavy taste of chocolate, soy sauce and burned toast. Smooth mouthfeel and a thich body. jerohen (1600), Bussum, Netherlands Nov 1, 2009 On draft at 1st Borefts Bier Festival, Bodegraven, 2007 version. Black appearance, brown head. Very typical Stormaktsporter aroma, highly characteristic but i can’t put my finger on it, roasted malts, caramel, peat. Very full flavoured, chocolate malts and coffee. This stuff is unbelievably good, and imho even as good as the Kaggen. Fantastic! Please make this more easily available... Borresteijn (1343), Amstelveen, Netherlands Oct 31, 2009 On tap at Borefts Bier Festival, De Molen, 2008 version. Black colour, thin brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, hops, chocolate, dark fruits, peat/smoke. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee, dark fruits, chocolate, liquorice root, some peat and a very good hoppy bitter finish. Fullbodied. Incredible stout, imo even better than the Kaggen. The highest rating I’ve given in over a year. BBB63 (4179), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 18, 2009 Many many thanks goes to Tom for sharing this (and I guess to Per for sending him the bottle), 2007 version:
Jet black and minimal carbonation but nice oily tears. The aroma is TO DIE FOR! Massive molasses, prune, tobacco, sea salt, iodine, anise, grains of paradise, bakers chocolate, and light coffee. I could smell this for hours. Onwards to the taste, lush dark fruits and roasted/burnt malts grab your arse right away. Earthy pipe tobacco and sublime spice notes head off towards the big molasses finish. The mouth feel is lush, oily and warming.
Worthy of all the hype, the shiz! After having the Kaggen (rating coming forth) I actually bumped up the overall score of this beer. Really, thanks again Tom and made short notice trip to Indy worth it 4 sure. tjthresh (1738), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Oct 18, 2009 I got this bottle from Per. Pours opaque black with some lighter brown head. It appears to be very dense and chewy. The nose is insane. It smells like drunken raisins, chewing tobacco, sea salt, cherries and dates. Much of the same character in the flavor as well. Very rich and decadent mouth feel. This is very much worth seeking out. Be sure to share. sfhodense (554), Odense NØ, Denmark Sep 29, 2009 EBF08. Black with a creamy golden beige head. Aroma is very complex, roasted barley, liquorish, chocolate, coffee and dark fruits. Flavour is like the aroma. My first 5.0. Everyone tells me that the kaggen version is better. I find that hard to belive, as I find this beer perfect.
