Known as "Bayonet ESB" now. Pours a ever-so-slightly hazy golden auburn/copper/orange color. Fluffy dulled white head formed easily and left soapy patches of lace on the glass. The glass looked like it could use a good scrubbing to clean all the lace off. Lazy bubbles meander to the surface in the murky cloudy sunset. Aromas are splendid. Huge hop scents with pine sap. Salivating. A splash of malty stickiness lingers in the fragrance. Wonderful aroma for the hophead. Flavors offer up a bombast of bitterness. Dry toast and saltine cracker feel is washed with sticky icky, pine sap, resin, and a touch of perfume. Some bitter grapefruit rind after the swallow. Lingering bitterness. Hoppy as can be. As hoppy as an IPA but with the distinction of being bone dry instead of offering oozy hop oils. Delightful. Solid mouthfeel. Dry finish. Drinkable as can be. The pint was finished in haste; and the growler brought home was drained with ease. A fantastic beer. GeneralGao (3076), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 18, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Clear golden-orange color with foamy white head that laced the glass. Pleasant grapefruit hop nose and flavor that is complimented well by the toasty, fruity malt flavors. Bitterness lasts throughout, but is more intense than I expected for this style. More like an IPA, actually. Good beer. bboven (103), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2006 This pours a hazy amber body with a creamy off-white head. Like the other brews that I had at Natty Greene’s Pub, it does some lasting lacing throughout the drink. It delivers a mixed floral bouquet over a fruity, malty base. The flavor begins with sweet malts, apples, and a cherry or two. The bitter hops return and dominate with wildflowers, grapefruit and pine. The finish is a prolonged bitterness that scores solid points with this hophead. Good, good stuff.

Light floral hop aroma with some caramel malt. The flavor was malty with a good stiff long moderately bitter finish. The finish was dry with a medium body. dkachur (2433), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 3, 2007 Now this is a nice ESB. Pours out a deep amber color with a small white head. aroma is slightly hoppy and floral. Flavor is a bit sweet at forst and has a ncie bitter finish. Great brew. bubbleflubber (903), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2009 Pours slightly hazed and amber into the glass. A thin suds ring follows down the glass. A nice metallic malty nose follows. The flavors are nice, with some sweet malt contrasting with a nice English bitter, really developing the metallic note mid-palate and closing with lingering dry hop notes to finish the pull. Complex, yet integrated well, it goes down with a full, substantive mouthfeel... perfect carbo levels to provide the right amount of zest. I’m hanging on to my like of this one, as it gets better the longer it sits. Good job.
