Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Aug 1, 2009 Courtesy of dkachur, you are indeed generous my man! Pours dark dark brown and virtually headless. The aroma is syrupy molasses, maple syrup, roastiness and a sense of booze. The taste is roast with chocolate and some earthiness moving into rich sweet yummy molasses. By midway caramel comes to the surface to add in the experience. Into the finish roasted malts with a dash of burnt malts well up and close off and demand another quaff. jrob21 (1250), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 18, 2009 Bottle back from GSO a while back. This one has been sitting in the back of my fridge for a while since I have been on a big IPA kick these days what with the summer and all. Coming back to the Impy Stout style though is kind of nice and I’m glad I did it with this one. This is a very nicely balanced but kicked up enough to be substantial kind of drink. Roasted malt aromas and flavors dominate. There is a distinct chocolate flavor and a nice bitterness from the hops that give this a more well rounded feel. Getting some vanilla as well in the aroma. Vanilla and a nice oakiness come through in the flavor too. Sure this isn’t barrel aged guys? Either way, incredibly drinkable and incredibly well done. TampaBrew (726), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2009 Pours a dark brown. Roasty, boozey, sweet sugar. Flavor is coffee, burnt grains. Surprisingly sharp hops, residual sweetness. finishes dry with lingering sweet. curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 16, 2009 Dark brown pour with a brown head. Coffee and cocoa aromas. Has a good roastiness with creamy cocoa tastes. Not an overly intense Imp stout but good. maugus4ever (121), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jun 13, 2009 Pours dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavor matches aroma pretty well. Very drinkable for an Imperial Stout, but something seems to be missing. Not a bad brew. ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA May 2, 2009 Pour is brown with brown head. Roasted Malty chocolaty aroma. Similar taste, however some fruit comes into play for me I didn’t pick up in the aroma. A pleasant surprise! Nice bitter finish. Easy to drink, solid Imp stout. Collint (450), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Apr 27, 2009 Bottle from Greensboro. Pours an almost solid black beer with a light tan head. Flavor is roasty, sweet malt and a chocolate bitter finish. Body is medium thick. The alcohol is well hidden, this beer is decenlty balanced and smooth. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Apr 25, 2009 Pours opaque black into the glass, with a thinning brown head that reduces to nothing. Also noted is some nice layering sediment at the bottom of the glass that stirs as the brew moves about the glass. The nose is of sweet malts, chocolates and dark fruits. Dark esters, roasted malts, some bitter chocolates and slight coffee flavors integrate well. The finish is of dark fruits and bitter dark chocolate. Interesting take on the style, but figures in well overall. Nothing overt, but the body is round and the mouthfeel is somewhat creamy. Decent.
