Flavor is roasty, sweet malt and a chocolate bitter finish. Body is medium thick. The alcohol is well hidden, this beer is decenlty balanced and smooth. bubbleflubber (898), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Pours opaque black into the glass, with a thinning brown head that reduces to nothing. Also noted is some nice layering sediment at the bottom of the glass that stirs as the brew moves about the glass. The nose is of sweet malts, chocolates and dark fruits. Dark esters, roasted malts, some bitter chocolates and slight coffee flavors integrate well. The finish is of dark fruits and bitter dark chocolate. Interesting take on the style, but figures in well overall. Nothing overt, but the body is round and the mouthfeel is somewhat creamy. Decent. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Bottle from Ross, and he forgot to tell me what to rate this since he expects all NC beers to get good ratings regardless of their quality. Pours a deep coffee brown with a one finger brown head. Aroma of chocolate and plums. Medium bodied with a slight creamy texture. Flavor of cocoa, bitter coffee, and dark roasted malts. Mid palate it pick up nuts and dark fruits. Finish is smooth like a Baltic Porter, but has a medicinal alcohol bite as it gets near room temp. Not bad, but not an aggressive Imperial stout. This is more like an imperial porter, but we don’t have the sub classification here- which is stupid Barrios (858), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 5, 2009 Pours a tan head with a dark brown body. Smells of roast, hint of smoke, very little chocolate and coffee, but there is some. Taste is the same but everything is slightly pronounced. Little thin with regard to the body. Wish it were a little bigger. Butters (1651), Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 5, 2009 Sampled at the Impromptu Butter’s 6th cellar clearance. Very dark brown pour with wispy brown head. Nutty roasty aroma. Smooth and roasty chocolate. Some alcohol warming as I swallow. Fair Imperial stout, and much better than many a brew.
