Opaque black color with bubbly brown head that laced the glass. The aroma was a bit disappointing with only a faint hint of coffee and caramel. However, the flavor was rich and complex with stong toffee, chocolate, and roasty coffee notes. The finish was roasty and bitter with a touch of anise and a splash of alcohol. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Courtesy of dkachur, you are indeed generous my man! Pours dark dark brown and virtually headless. The aroma is syrupy molasses, maple syrup, roastiness and a sense of booze. The taste is roast with chocolate and some earthiness moving into rich sweet yummy molasses. By midway caramel comes to the surface to add in the experience. Into the finish roasted malts with a dash of burnt malts well up and close off and demand another quaff. kramer (2530), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2009 12 oz bottle. Very dark brown pour, almost black, with a small light brown head. A good bit of yeast sediment in the bottle. Heavy roast, cola, and lots of burnt caramel stick out on the nose. Lighter licorice, alcohol, and chalk as well. Roast and licorice dominates with a sweet burnt caramel middle. Finishes more burnt and chalky than it starts out. Very minimal alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is full and almost oily in texture with nice fine bubbled soft carbonation. This was a pretty darn good surprise, much better than I expected. dkachur (2439), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Pours a ruby tinted brown color with a thin head. Poor head retention and weak lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, soy, smoke and subtle fruity notes. Taste is roasted malts, bitter hops, smoke, tobacco and soy with caramel and coffee in the finish. Fairly dry. Medium bodied. BrewDad (2402), Olympia, Washington, USA

Dark black in color with the faint head but this beer has it all. Great flavor, aroma and finish. Loved the creaminess this gave off and the beer would be perfect with ice cream. A great chocolate, coffee and a hint of spices this was a great drinking stout.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep and rich mahogany brown, almost black in color. A small, smooth head of dark khaki foam comes to a rest as a thin, persistent layer. Small splotches of lacing mark the glass. The nose is very fruity for a big stout, showing loads of sweet fig and raisin amidst a big serving of burnt caramel, toasted marshmallow, and both milk and dark chocolate. Flavors too are sweet and fruity, monster gobs of caramel and even some candy sugar steeped with figs, dates, raisins, and prunes. There’s just a hint of roastiness in the background, but it remains largely a super sweet brew. The palate is initially creamy and moderately carbonated, transitioning to a slightly chalky midpoint and finishing sticky and cloying. There’s little to no alcoholic heat though, which is nice. This reminds me of a poor man’s Black Albert with it’s fruitiness and candy sugar profile. Better than expected, but not really my thing.
