I had never even heard of them and here they are making some decent brews. Clear deep amber pour on draft with thin head of light tan color. Malty and biscuity. Good medium body was not overcarbonated. Very enjoyable amber. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Clear dark copper with a ruby tinge and a small, creamy head that lasts and laces well. Aroma of earth-spiced molasses, tea leaf and caramel. Flavor is grain, molasses, tea leaf, biscuit, light apple, toasted nut and some slight resin on the finish. Light-medium body is smooth and lightly hop-tingly. This is a very good example of an English style premium bitter. MaltOMeal (653), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA

Pours a copper color with thin off-white head which dissipated almost immediately. Smell is roasty malt and nutty. Taste is malt and nutty with a little sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium-to-thin with some carbonation and a slight bitterness to it. EithCubes (2169), Indiana, USA

Musty, woody funk aroma, I’d have called it hops if I didn’t know the brewer’s house flavor. Lesser caramel and toffee, and medium-strength waves of this great tea leaf tone. Mahogany pour with a soapy tan head. Malty, toffee-heavy taste, lightly sweet and earthy with mild carbonation on a medium-light body. Faint (macro-level) bitterness. Flourish of citrus (lemon) toward the end. Little bit of a chalky residue, but not much. Nice little toasty session, nuanced and gentle and corresponds well as the American session to the English bitter - you learn to appreciate it more with volume. alexanderj (2280), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 18, 2008 On tap; amber in color with a medium sized white head. Aroma of caramel malt and flowers. Flavor was similar; toffee and caramel with a slight hop finish. Some sweetness and grass also. About average for the style. NachlamSie (1650), Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Bottle. Whoa, it is weird how cloudy this is. It’s like reddish milk. I guess I was really expecting a filtered ale to come out of this bottle. There’s a nice looking head on this one. Nose is musty, non-descript. Some mild biscuits and obvious papery hops. Upon sipping, I find this to be sweeter than expected. Now, it certainly is not overly sweet but is rather pleasing in a way similar to honey. I don’t get a lot of hops anywhere in taste. Another surprise is the amount of vinous quality in the finish. Again, it isn’t overwhelming (nothing on this beer is, truth to tell) but it is a definite nod at grapes. Much like their pale ale, this is a standard amber ale with little, very subtle tweaks that make it almost interesting. It’s not bad. biznizness (952), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

It tells me something when the first bottled offerings to come out of a brewery are pale ale, amber ale, golden ale, brown ale, etc. DO SOMETHING EXCITING.
