The aroma is quite roasty with lots of coffee, maybe some brown sugar and roasted nut hints. Flavor of dark roast coffee, and some somewhat caramelly malts behind it. Nutty and ashy in the finish with a coffee aftertaste. jcwattsrugger (5563), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 4, 2007 For a "French roasted style", this is WAY more Irish in nature. Extremely underwhelming, and not indicative of style once it hits the lips.... at least not my batch. Black opaque pour, with a nicely coating eggshell head, leaving thick lace. It had a roasted choco nose that was a little hard to distinguish. The primary flavors are uneventful, and consist of baker’s chocolate, roasted grains and plentiful bitters. The texture is not creamy, but rather the palate is just too busy. The finish is quite bitter and lingering... again, very underwhelming. TURDFERGUSON (1606), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 24, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. Poured black with a little tan head that fades. Aroma is almost non-existant, a little bit of roasted malts. Flavor is rather watery and weak. Glad I only ordered the 5oz taster glass. Drinkable, but far from enjoyable. Booooooorrring. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 1, 2007 Draught during my NC brew tour. The pour is black with a frothy, tan head. The aroma is faint, but has a general wheaty, grainy character about it. Minimal coffee notes are noticed as well. This is fairly thin stuff, especially for a stout. There is a some thin cocoa and a slight nuttiness. Not a great stout at all. This was a discouraging start into my Natty Green venture. Cornfield (4966), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 1, 2006 This might be more flavorful if the nose and taste weren’t muted by the nitro delivery system. It looks good, naturally, with a body so dark brown it’s almost black and a creamy tan head that laces in sheets. What there is left of the aroma is a light roasted barley with freshly ground coffee. Too smooth for me. The muted flavor reflects the aroma, the coffee being a bit stronger now. It leaves a chalky coating on te tongue. Drinkable, but, Why?

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 16, 2006 From notes 8/7/04:
Usual nitro-tap pour with a rich creamy head hovering over a deep dark rich brew. Deep black beer. Just looks smooth and thick. Aromas of roasted malts and dry espresso powder. Flavors have a long-roasted coffee feel with some hints of charred patent malt. Barley notes evident. Enough hop finish to balance this and give it more of a dry finish. Not as thick on the palate as the appearance would lead you to believe, but not watery either. Drinkable. A solid stout.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 13, 2006 on tap at Natty Green’s brewpub. pours black w/ a tan head. similar to Guiness look but body is slightly weaker, less dark of a body. tastes burnt and doughty with a dry finihs. also has an oily mouthfeel. bitter aftertastes, hints of alcohol, semi-sweet chocolate and caramel malts. way too sweet. almost like a huge sugarcube was melted into the beer concoction. way too bitter and burnt. so bottom line is that the flavors are too intense and not well balanced at all.
