Tap at the brewpub on 2/2/08: Pours a semi-transparent dark mahogany brown with a nicely-lacing froth of light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark malts and a touch of milk chocolate. Body starts with decent full;ness and some dark caramel sweetness and a roasty malty bitterness for balance before a thinner dark chocolate finish. An authentic dry stout.

From notes 8/7/04: Usual nitro-tap pour with a rich creamy head hovering over a deep dark rich brew. Deep black beer. Just looks smooth and thick. Aromas of roasted malts and dry espresso powder. Flavors have a long-roasted coffee feel with some hints of charred patent malt. Barley notes evident. Enough hop finish to balance this and give it more of a dry finish. Not as thick on the palate as the appearance would lead you to believe, but not watery either. Drinkable. A solid stout.

Draught at the Brewpub in Greensboro 3/25/06: Opaque black body with a small tan head, very creamy, thick and lasting. The aroma is roast, mild coffee, and chocolate. The taste is light roasted malt, raisins, chocolate, lightly charred malt, and is not very assertive with any flavors here. Medium-full body, mild carbonation, served using nitrogen (yes beersnobs this does detract from the aroma, but I like my dry stouts on nitrogen)

Almost black pour with foamy tight head and lace. Roasted malt and light coffee on the nose. A light burnt coffee flavor and a pretty nice bitter. A tad thin but with good carbonation. A bit above average BP stout a slight twang takes a bit away from it.

A touch of peat in the nose. Dry as hell. Dirt and earthy darkness. Bitter black water. Served on nitro, however not all that velvety in return. Some roasty fruitiness would be appreciated. Instead one finds, peat, water and roasted earth. G-rat
