Commercial Description:
Medium-bodied, unfiltered wheat beer with a clove & banana aroma and a refreshing, tart finish. We dubbed this German-styled wheat beer Hessian as this was the name of German volunteer soldiers in the Revolutionary War. The period flags are of the Hessian towns where the soldiers originated.

Tap at the brewpub on 2/2/08: Pours a cloudy deep golden with a clingy-lacing frothy white head. Aroma of sweet doughy German yeast and caramely malt with a touch of banana esters. Starts fairly full-bodied and malted wheaty sweet with a good balance of bready yeast and clove spice. A nicely done hefeweizen.

Draft at brewpub. Pours a fairly dark, cloudy gold/orange. White head. Aroma of fruit, banana and spice. Flavor was good, with a nice balance between banana/wheat and citrus/fruit. Some light sweetness. Thought it was pretty good.

Hazed yellow/brown pour with creamy white head and lace. Corriander and bannanas on the nose. Clove, bannana, and a slight semi sweet maltiness. Just a bit fizzy. Very solid refreshing beer. I really liked this beer. I can’t say enough about how clean and good it was.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours cloudy orange with white head. The aroma is orange, slight banana, mild bubblegum, and wheat crackers. The flavor is very bready with some mild fruit tones. Some yeast and sugar is in the finish. Ok.

Draft at Natty Greenes. Came to me with a fucking orange wedge on it. Did I order a God Damn Pina Colada? No. So get that fruit shit out of my beer. Pours out a dark yellow to light orange color with a nice white head on it. Smell was fruity and full of orange peel, coriander, and perhaps a little bit of lemon. Taste was very smooth and easy to drink. I could drink quite a bit of these on a hot summer day. Too bad they do not bottle this one. Extremely underrated on this site. Just leave off that fucking orange.

draught. Pours cloudy orange with a tall white head. The aroma is aggressive with not so subtle bananas and cloves. The flavor is again not delicate, but it certainly isn’t overly sweet or spiced. The banana character is quite juicy, some light citrus is present, and grainy, wheaty notes add a dimension to the finish. Quite drinkable.
