ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Jan 17, 2009 Bottle that Daniel brought down. Thanks. Wanted to try some more of these beers. Pours out brown and kind of reddish with a tan head on it. Smell is spicy, with some fruits and cinnamon. Kind of reminds me of Anchor Christmas Ale. Taste is sweet and spicy, kind of fruity. Pretty smooth too. Interesting beer, probably not one I could drink multiple bottles of. Not bad from this place though, they actually have some good stuff. Glad to see it in bottles. jrob21 (1250), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 28, 2008 Nice little winter beer my mother in law had waiting for me over christmas. Thanks madre. Pretty deep muddy brown color. Aroma of spice and plums and a little bit of ginger. Flavor was red fruit again, spice and a bit of a chalky texture. At first I got some cocoa but that faded into the spice and malt drink that is perfect for this time of year. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Dec 6, 2008 A great beer. Glad to see it in bottles. Pours out a dark brown color with a smaller tan head. aroma is very festive. Has notes of malt, sugar, and cinnamon. Flavor is very much the same with a nice bit of nut meg in there. A great winter ale. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 12/19/2006

dark cloudy amber, wispy beige head, light malt aroma with traces of cinamon, lots of sweet malt flavor with a candy like quality including a nice vanilla flavor balanced with light spicyness including the cinamon, the spiced are kept very light as to add character rather than take over,

The chalkboard proclaiming its December 3rd arrival described the beer as such: "Think gingerbread in a glass." I’m intrigued.
Presented to the table with just a thin 1/2 inch tan head. A deep mahogany color with plum notes. Held to the light and a brilliant vibrant ruby shines through. Little lacing in either pint I ordered. Aromas were soft and subtle. Some spicy Christmas candle scent, or the centuries old bakery at Old Salem baking up holiday treats. Ginger, nutmeg, spice, dough. I offered some to my wife, and she expresses that it "Still smells too beery to me." Some aromatic malt qualities still show up through the spicing. Flavors are top notch. A deluge of holiday spice, mainly gingerbread. The chalkboard doesn’t lie. Not a biting spice, but a warm and inviting Christmas-tree-lights-only-on-in-the-house-with-a-warming-fire feel. Doughy bready feel. The ginger tweaks my tongue with each swallow. Aftertaste lingers on with spicecake. So very drinkable. I hope this one hangs around a bit while longer.
GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 15, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Clear ruby brown color with thin white head. no lace. Cinnamon and gingerbread nose and flavor. Alcohol is prominent in the flavor and finish. Good winter brew.
