Lagered for 8 weeks per the chalkboard. Pours a clear mahogany/chestnut color with plenty of burnt orange highlights around the edges. Modest fluffy beige head formed. Little lacing sticks to the glass in either pint I had today. Aromas are subtle to say the least. Clean, virtually absent, scents of caramel squares, toffee, and plummy fruitiness. Flavors coat the palate in caramel and toffee. Dark fruit lingers in the background, becoming more pronounced as it warms. Twinge of vinous quality mid-pint. A touch of molasses. Thin body. Rather weak, borderline watery. Not much oomph here. Extremely drinkable though. A very easy-drinking brew. I would have preferred a heftier beer. Mild all around.
GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 15, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Clear orange brown color with thin white head. Smells of artificial candy (maybe grape) and brown sugar. Flavor is candy, dried cherries, and cantaloupe. Finish is slightly sweet.
