Aroma of smoky earthy dark malts and chocolate caramel with a touch of ash. Body starts pretty thick and dark malty sweet with some sticky chocolate and earthy roasty smoky complexity toward the finish. A nicely balanced and enjoyable smoked porter. jcwattsrugger (5374), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 4, 2008 Appearance: Black body with a small, beige head.
Smell: Burnt, black malts with notes of charred chocolate blocks and smoke.
Taste: Roasty black malt flavor accentuated by a rich, though reasonable smoke component. Hint of baker’s chocolate. Not too much in the way of sweetness, but you do get your money’s worth in roasty bitterness. Bitter, smokey, even ashen finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: An enjoyable smoked beer where the smoke character isn’t grotesquely overdone. decaturstevo (1997), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Almost black pour with brown head and lace. Light hint of coffee on the nose. Hard coffee flavor and a very nice finishing medium bitter. Nice silky smooth palate. One of the best BP porters ever for me. NachlamSie (1641), Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2007 Draught during my NC brew tour. Pours a dark ruby tinged black with a tall, dark tan head. The aroma is very roasty with hazelnuts and coffee. Much more assertive nose on this than the General Stout. The flavor is chewy with toffee and almonds with some ashiness in the finish. This is distinctly English in style, but even better than many of its British counterparts.
