This allows the beer to show more complexity, you get oak and chocolate in the nose. Flavors are of coffee, vanilla and wood. fairly complex but could be a little more robust.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Sampled on 11/20/2009. This Imperial Stout pours a eclipse black color from a 22 oz bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head with nice retention and decent lacing. The aroma is oak, chocolate, coffee and some tobacco. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate, coffee and roasty. Nice hints of tobacco, roasty malt and wood. The hops are earthy. A nicely balance, full flavored, not over the top Imperial Stout. The barrel aging seems to mute, blend and mellow the flavors here. Very nice. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. The Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
