Tap at Verdugo Bar. I will drink this anytime, any place. Full nose of chocolate-covered bourbon, coffee and love. Color was black with little head and lacing like a Victorian cravat. Flavor very full - smooth bourbon, roasty coffee, toffee, a pinch of dark fruit, nice elegant wood... damn. What makes this so great to smell and taste is the smoothness. So well crafted - probably more so than anything FW does.

Dec 3, 2009 Pours out flat black with some head on the second warmer pour. Smells like bourbon and vanilla. Taste is the same with coffee and some chocolate. Roasty and stickey sweet with dry bitter finish. Nice wood and bourbon flavor.Some nice alcohol warming. Very good brew, one of the best.

Dec 3, 2009 Bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Pours an opaque black with a frothy, creamy, slightly beige head. Nose is vanilla, bourbon, wood, a little vinous, earthy. Flavor has lots of vanilla and bourbon, wood, milk chocolate, some toast, coffee with cream. Finish is creamy, sweet with lasting vanilla. Nice.

Dec 3, 2009 22oz bottle, thanks nimbleprop. Dark brown body with small beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, Bourbon, some chocolate, light vinous. Taste is moderately sweet, Bourbon, some chocolate, alcohol/vinous. Medium-full body, some stickiness.

Dec 3, 2009 bomber thanks to Smokespot23 and the fantasy baseball league I won. Dense, pitch black pour with a chocolaty brown head. Rich. malty, woody aroma, chocolate and rich dark fruits, very nice. Flavor is a little bitter, some more dark chocolate and a coffee roastness in the finish, not too bad.

Dec 2, 2009 Dark pour, draft. Aroma has some bittersweet chocolate and light coffee. A hint of bourbon but is pretty light overall. Body is a bit thin and the flavor has very little bourbon. Coffee and chocolate and roasted malts with a hint of bourbon and wood.

Dec 2, 2009 bottle thanks to my california buddy bhensonb. poured dark brown with a beige head. aroma was chocolate syrup, coffee, and cinnamon. flavor was much the same minus the coffee. body was medium-heavy with a nice slick coating. thanks again bill!!

Dec 1, 2009 Sampled on 11/20/2009. This Imperial Stout pours a eclipse black color from a 22 oz bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head with nice retention and decent lacing. The aroma is oak, chocolate, coffee and some tobacco. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate, coffee and roasty. Nice hints of tobacco, roasty malt and wood. The hops are earthy. A nicely balance, full flavored, not over the top Imperial Stout. The barrel aging seems to mute, blend and mellow the flavors here. Very nice. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. The Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
