Barrel aged for 6 months in combination of Bourbon, retired Firestone Union and wine barrels and Infused with fair-trade, organic coffee from local roaster Jobella. Rich bourbon and coffee aromas greet the senses. Complex chocolate and tobacco flavors fill the palate. This beer displays a full-bodied mouth-feel and an overall balanced presentation. 10/26/09 notes: on tap, LA Beerfest. One of the anticipated offerings of the fall, thanks for bringing it out to play Firestone! Color is intensely black. Nose has espresso, black chocolate, and ash. Flavor is initially quite harsh, a bolt of semisweet chocolate, and dark malt. Roasted malt comes out through the middle, then moves the direction of ash. Upon subsequent sips, I am impressed by a subtle red-wine flavor that seems to creep into this beer almost imperceptibly. As the strange ash flavor became distracting in the finish, I found myself wishing the vinous note was stronger. Did not reach my upper-echelon of Imperial Stouts, but with some age this beer might mellow and become delicious.

Thanks to MonieSoCal and Todd for this beer. Black pour with a brown head, the flavors of bittersweet chocolate and vanilla really stand out. It’s got a nice, creamy mouthfeel and a very warm glow afterwords.

Bottle. Black pour with a short, frothy tan head. Aroma is vanilla, molasses, wet oak, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is big vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted malt, citrusy hops, oak, and molasses. Brown sugar and alcohol as well as fermented fruit come through. Body is thick and chewy with a creamy, dense carbonation. Slight warming. Ends with more dark chocolate, big vanilla, molasses, brown sugar, roasted malt, alcohol and woody notes. Rather tasty and their best beer, IMHO.

On tap at Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest. Pitch black with no head and an oily appearance. Nose is overly sweet with a metallic oxidized twang. Some hot whiskey is apparent. Taste is very smoky with medium coffee and hops bitterness. Intense bourbon character throughout. Addition of wine barrel aging adds some earthy tannins, but seems to clash with the bourbon. Cloyingly sweet and not very easy to drink.

Bottle brought home by DuffmanSW (I think?). Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is black licorice, stewed fruits, and slight coffee. Flavor is some grainy malts and coffee with a solid bitterness. Somewhat one dimensional. Full bodied with light carbonation.

bottle, thanks to wavers1! Pours thick black with a tall light brown head. Toast, roasted barley, and coffee round out the aroma, but there are notes of wood all over the place, and it’s so nice, I keep smelling different things. Nice roasty flavors of coffee, sweet chocolate, and barley, but the finish is where it’s at. Bourbon and oak with the creamiest mouth ever. It’s like a bourbon and chocolate milkshake with coffee thrown in for good measure. I love it.
