Pours completely opaque black with a medium brown head that sticks. Gorgeous appearance. Fresh bourbon barrel aroma right from the beginning, gourmet chocolate, chestnuts, roasted malts and vanilla aromas too, as well as coffee liqueur. Complex and rich aroma - very nice. Flavor is again with the vanilla and bourbon at first, then cream, brazil nuts, and bourbon again. The bourbon is evident throughout. Smooth mouthfeel, medium viscosity for the style, a little flat in the carbo department. Still one of the better bourbon-barreled impys I’ve had, and a damn good beer overall. I like the way the bourbon was present, but didn’t overpower like some of the others. A little overpriced for $15 a bomber, though I’m sure with today’s market, they won’t have any problem selling this out in prompt fashion. I would buy it again for ten. Overall, excellent to world class.

Nov 30, 2009 Bottle from HH22, thanks tim... Pours a nice black color with a think khaki colored head. Nice coffee, chocolate, barrell aged aroma... Taste reminds me of a imperial porter... Nice coffee, barrel aged bourbon, roasted malts taste.... I hate to add to the hype of a beer but this is another winner by FW... The texture is perfect....small bubbles that just sit on your tounge... way to easy to drink for an eleven percent beer. Thanks tim for a great beer

Nov 30, 2009 After my first taste, I was sure I was not going to like this. Then I let it sit for a few minutes and I was happily surprised to find that I wound up enjoying it more. Pours near-black with a tan head. Sweet with cream/milk, vanilla, wood, lots of coffee. Not exceptionally aged, just moderate bourbon essence. Slightly astringent. Long finish.

Nov 30, 2009 Bottle shared by nimbleprop: Pours an oily opaque black with dark mahogany edges and thin wispy off-white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity hops and sweet dark caramel with vanilla bourbon complexity. Starts with a pretty good dark caramel and chocolate flavor with a nice vanilla bourbon balance and doughy yeasty balance before a slightly warming thinner bittersweet finish. A decent bourbon barrel aged imperial stout, but seems a little sugary and young.

Nov 29, 2009 On tap at Bailey’s Taproom in Portland, OR. Colour... black with no head; not even while it was coming out of the tap! Nose... day old coffee with a touch of milk, vanilla, marshmallow and a bit o’ booze. Palate... light CO2, sweet, gently coffee flavours, chickory, burnt toffee, Nips (coffee falvoured boiled sweets) and a very long finish.

Nov 28, 2009 Bottle from naven. Light mouthfeel. Reminds me of something, but I’m not sure what. Mild oaky taste with hints of bourbon. Very drinkable. A quality brew. Me likey.

Nov 28, 2009 Bottle thanks to Mashmaster. Pours black with a little tan head to it. Has a boozy smoky smell to it. Has a coffee and booze taste it. Needs much more time in the bottle I think. I need to come back to this one once it’s aged a little.

Nov 27, 2009 650 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours an opaque black with a small tan head that fades to a fine film and holds. The aroma is strong with sweet dark fruits, whiskey and coffee. The taste is similar to the aroma--coffee, dark fruits, tobacco and whiskey. The palate is full and smooth. The finish is short and dry. Overall: Only a short finish prevents this from entering the halls of the great.
