Commercial Description:
Our IPA is created from a base of Pale and Crystal malts and is aggressively hopped throughout the brewing process with a final hop addition in the conditioning vessel. A beautiful flowery hop aroma will greet you as you dive into this hop lover’s dream. A middle caramel malt presence balances high hop bitterness with hop flavor end to end... learn to love hops! (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company under the name "Humboldt IPA Nectar" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a whiskey snifter. The beer pours a medium to deep amber color with a slight white head that quickly disappears. The nose gives a strong indication that my sample has been extensively, and likely overly, aged. Notes of medium and high crystal malts to the nose, with a precipitous lack of hop character. The palate is more in the realm of English ESB, with an almost tea-like malty character at first, before giving away to some faint caramel notes. At most, the hops serve to balance the malt. Overall, not unenjoyable to drink, but it seems as though the beer may have been far different when it left the brewery.

Nice solid IPA, floral hoppy aroma. Malty, grainy flavor enhanced by the juicy hop profile. Well-balanced IPA overall.

Bottle at Amity Hall. Light orange body with some head. Hoppy and pine nose. Hop taste strong throughout with some malt in evidence, including caramel. Very smooth and well-rounded. Enjoyable.

Pours a clear golden orange/amber color with some pale golden yellowish orange hues when held to a light source. One finger light yellowish head with decent retention, slowly fading to a lasting ring. Uber-fresh floral oily hop aroma with a lot of citrus character as well as some subtle pine. Hints of mango, grapefruit, lemon and orange peel. Slight malt presence with hints of caramel, biscuit and graham cracker. Dry resinous medium body with lots of incredibly fresh floral hops complimented by a subtle malt backbone and a nice dry finish. The hops are incredibly juicy, bursting with a lot of complex flavors. Lots of sweet fruit and citrus notes. Hints of lemon and orange peel, mango, grapefruit and pineapple with amount of dry pine presence to balance out the sweetness. The bitterness lingers throughout over the subtle caramel, biscuity graham cracker malt backbone into a long dry finish. No detectable alcohol heat and excellent balance make this beer incredibly quaffable.

Bottle. Aroma of citrus hops with some caramel malt in the background. Bitter finish which balances the some sweetness. Classic IPA, quite good.

Bottle. Pours light orange with nice lacing. Aroma of crisp pine and spruce, somehow juicy. Flavor hits lightly on the palate, paired with the effervescence this amounts to a “fluffy” feel to this beer. Initial notes of intense pine needles with a twist of perfumy flowers, lacking the sweetness that renders some IPAs into sweet messes. Good hop character throughout this beer, certainly a nice change. Finishes lightly bitter, but still very hop forward. Delicious session beer, just a tiny notch below my two favorite session IPAs, West Coast IPA and Torpedo. I’d love to try this super fresh!

Very good IPA. It shouldn’t be any surprise that a company with ties to Firestone Walker can make a good IPA. Nectar IPA fits in nicely as sweeter, more floral counterpoint to FW’s hoppy pales. The beer is a rich golden color without too much head, not that I really care. The aroma is floral and piney with a touch of citrus. Caramel and bread malt flavors creep in along the edges of the hop barrage, albeit a friendly, pleasant hop barrage. The flavor is rather dry with a raspy bitter aftertaste. This is an enjoyable, easy to like IPA.

12 oz. bottle - thanks to kmweaver for the bonus bottle; clear copper with trace white head and bubbles along the edge; crystal malts, fruity hops and stale sweetness; medium body has an almost jolly rancher candy sweetness to it with fruity hops; peach, pineapple, apple and lots of tangy orange; not bitter, but plenty dry from the hops; decent, but maybe a tad too sweet (in an artificial sense) without the hop bitterness to balance it out

Nicely sweet IPA from the bottle. Light honey hop nose. Flavor starts out sweet malt and then mellows into the bitterness, which balances well.
