Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Hops and hints of some sort of tropical flavor. Very well rounded and full bodied. Surprised by how good the beer really was. The aroma was the best aspect of the beer with hints of flowers, fruit, and a little spice.

Aroma with noticable citrus hop, some sort of tropical flower (hibiscus?), and arguably malt. Dark coppery color, with an off-white head. It laces. Starts with decent mouthfeel, a light sweetness, some sort of flowery taste (really), and a light bitterness. This is very unusual, and nice. The bitterness is not strong, but it extends.

12 oz Bottle via Liquid Solutions Pours a clear reddish amber with a an average size white head. Nose is subtle, some toasted grains, toffee, and malts. Taste is the same with perhaps a bit of honey and some mild hops. Medium body, light to moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish. Very balanced and easy to drink.

12oz. bottle: This pours a hazy amber color. It has a small off white head on it. This has a very appealing nose. A nice mix of caramel malts, spiciness, floral and some breadiness also. The taste is a bit of a letdown from the aroma, although still good. A somewhat harsh, bitter taste to it.

Bottle purchased at the Foodery in Philly. Pours semi hazy dark red iwth a moderate off white head. Very fruity aroma with some caramel malts in the background. Moderate carbonation. Initial flavor is very malty, notes of caramel and toasted grains. Hints of orange come out in the finish, which has a teabag like bitterness. I enjoyed this much better around 55 degrees. When its cold, it finishes like a bitter orange tea.

Pours a three finger cream head that fades to a shallow layer and leaves some lace. Cloudy dark amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Starts mildly hoppy, looking for sweetness and not finding it, hoppy, resiny finish, with bitter aftertaste. $1.69 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Market Tigard, Or.
