Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Bottle 22oz. Pours an amber color with scents of malt. Not a brew that you’ll remember, but not a brew that you hated drinking either. Middle of the road, not overly hoppy or malty. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get this but if it got in my way I’d have it again.

Draft. Zzzzz. If you want to waste your time with a brew that does absolutely zilch to distinguish itself from the roughly 93 Billion ales out there - then THIS is the beer for YOU! It’s rust colored. There’s no head. Unmemorable aroma. Extraordinarily heavy stomach-feel. I can’t see anyone willingly drinking more than one of these. This is just generic in every sense of the word. Nothing you haven’t tasted before. If you like a good dose of heavy malt with no balance, here you go. Clearly a Sam Adams knock-off. Sorry if I sound pissy in this review but I really hate it when I waste my time trying something so seemingly half-assed. I must have gotten ahold of a bad keg and/or a dirty CO2 system, perhaps...???

Draught. Clear red-orange color with bubbly white head that laced the glass. Pleasant citrusy hop nose and flavor with malty caramel notes. Nice mix of bitter and sweet as each mouthful moves through. Tasty beer.

Bottle at Issac Newton’s. Pours amber with a reddish hue, and a thin beige head. Aroma of pine hops, citrus, fruit and sweet malts. Flavor is sweet upfront, citrus, spices are present with a bitter hoppy finish. Good body, good brew.

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear crimson pour with a quarter inch of lasting and silky looking tan head. Aroma is fruity, hoppy, peppery and slightly malty. Very bitter at the front of the flavor. The middle is just as hoppy with nice floral notes and a slight caramel malt hint. Very bitter finish. Probably the hoppiest amber ale I’ve ever run across. Thanks again Dan.

Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Reddish amber with offwhite head. Balanced nose of fruity hops and medium caramel malt. Flavor follows, with just enough bitterness to make it more like an APA in my opinion. An easy drinker with a smooth palate and medium body, very nice on tap.

Pours a mostly clear medium to deep amber with not much of a head. Aroma has a typical amber ale character to it- but perhaps a bit old- ligth citrus malts and some light crystal malts. Somewhat stale crystal malt flavor, some light citrus hops in the end. Mostly smooth and easy to drin, but nothing special about it.
