Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Very nice red-brown body, minimal white head. Hops with heavy spices (maybe a honey base) and a good amount of bitterness in the aroma. Floral tastes with sweet fruit accents. Slightly tart ending, not the best Red Ale I’ve had.

Bottle. Semi-translucent red amber with a few bubbles and no real head. Aroma a bit of hoppy ipa with a more flowery tinge than some. Robust, hoppy, tawny flavor with a sweet strong malt backbone. It’s allright, fits well into a class of beers that will more than do but that you will never seek out.

In the bottle at Davis, CA. Rich copper amber in color with an ecru-white head of medium consistency. The aroma produces a serious caramel toasted nose. Floral sweetness and tasty malty doughy flavor that is thick and chewey for the style. I enjoyed drinking this on the cottage porch of the Aggie Inn on a 70 degree february friday afternoon. Hard not to love a beer under such circumstances.

12oz bottle. Orange amber with a small off white slightly rocky head. Muted grassy hops with sweet caramel malt in the aroma. Ruddy malt with a tinge of toastiness complemented by a slightly astringent herbal hoppiness. Residual bitterness and some caramel in the finish. Mouthfeel is light medium, fairly dry.

Bottled. This beer poors a deep copper-red. The aroma is a slightly sweet malt and caramel. This is a smooth medium bodied beer that tastes of malt, caramel, and slight floral undertoneswith a quick and slightly dry finish.

12oz bottle shared courtesy of Whaleman. Poured a medium amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, caramel, light honey, lightly floral and some spices. Tastes of oranges, floral, and light honey.

Clear amber body with a soapy, grayish-white head. Aroma is of sweet wort with caramel and honey notes plus a hop profile suggesting peaches and spice. Piney flavor with light malt character, relative dryness, and medium bitterness. Medium light body with a dry finish. Nothing special in the bottle, but I could see this being nice when fresh on tap.

Bottle. Pours brownish with a small flat head. Aroma of dirt, malts, grasses. Balanced flavor of those three aromas. Plain, but drinkable.
