Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

This is a greeat little session beer. A perfect balance of hops and malt. Sweet maltiness comes through in the forefront and a nice complementing hop bitterness that is almost sweet in the aftertaste. Nice little beer.

Pours with a medium white head on a golden-brown body. Intense floral hoppy aroma with very light malty undertones. Sweet malty flavor with a mild hoppy finish on a medium thick body.

12 oz bottle via fordest. Pours a clear copper with a small antique white head. Nice floral hoppy nose over a sweet toffee-like malt base. Resiny hop bite with toffee and toasted malt flavor. Medium bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. This one really surprised me, I was prepared for just an average to below average Amber, but this was really good. Not amazing, but above average.

Aroma of spice for this beer. Deep amber body with off white small head. Flavor has a malty backbone with enough spice flavor to balance a what might of been a sweet malty ale. Warming effect so on a cool night or day should try this one. Mild spicy aftertaste.

Bottle: pours with a clear red-amber body and a small, quickly fading, light beige head. The aroma is subtle, but does show floral, earthy, and spicy hops with a hint of residual sugary sweetness. Taste initally has an interesting sweetness, like eating red clover. Quickly afterwards, the hops take over for a bit, establishing earthy, floral, spicy hops. Some chewy caramel and bready malt show up towards the middle, then the hops take back over in the finish with bitter floral grass notes that linger on the tongue. Light-medium bodied, medium carbonation, a nice thirst-quenching amber ale that does showcase some quality hops.
