Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

on tap. the flavor of this amber was quite surprising. an explosion of citrus as a result of lots of hops. a really good amber with the underlying maltiness.

Hey! The aroma was a touch skunky so I was ready to be let down, but there is some serious flavor here and a great Malt/Hop combo. The hops come on a little strong at the end, but only because there is so much sweetness and malt in the fore state. You could almost use this beer as a test to find out what kind of beer novice drinkers prefer...foretatse they like malty beers....aftertaste they like Hoppy beers. I really like this so I must be in the middle.

Wow! Huge head, very smooth and wet. Hopped and balanced perfectly. They’re not kidding when they call this nectar. It has a very malty sweetness to it. Nose is of some kind of vanilla flower. The color is not a Killians type red, but rusty amber. I used to live in Humboldt County about 12 years ago. I wonder if this brewery existed back then? Who knows, I was a 18 year old moron pounding allsorts. This is one of the best reds I’ve ever had. (since I bought it in VA, I was worried about its freshness). And I only thought this breath taking area was known for its greens....but then again, and its a little hazy, but i’m starting to recall that the greens had some reds

(Bottle)Pours thin white head with darkish ruby red color. light floral aroma. Has a candy-like sweetness with a slight hoppy finish. Pretty unique to me. Could be balanced alittle better i think.

bottle. Pours a off white thin head with a very deep cherry red color. lacing is clearly present not malty put has a slight hop taste although iv’e seen much stronger in other ales. A very clean crisp finish with not much lasting flavor. Medium bodied. I had this in a 22oz. bottle I hope I can get a 6 pack of this some day. A must try in my opinion for any ale lover.

Pours a darker cherry red with a medium off-white head that leaves decent lacing behind. The nose has a mix of herbal hops and mild malts, kinda doing a drunk walk right on the line, nothing to malt nor hoppy. This brew’s flavor starts with a citrus fruit malt presence, lightly caramel sweet, a bit buttery, finishing soft with a mild bitterness. Hops trail long into the sunset, not overly bitter, but no skimping on hop flavor. Very nice well balance brew.

(12 oz bottle: Cost Plus in La Jolla, CA) Solid, flavorful amber ale with a nice balance between mildly sweet maltiness and a moderately bitter hops. The nose, however, is much more tipped toward the sweet, malty and caramely side of the spectrum. Medium in body with a round, enveloping, pleasant mouthfeel. Dark amber in color and fully clear. Light tan head pours to an inch in height, and retains a thin layer until the beer is gone. This is a very capable amber, solid in all respects.
