Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Very strange that I had samples in three different tasting and had a slightly different opinion each time. Didn't care for it at first and next time thought it was a clear winner. Perhaps a bad bottle first time? At any rate, has a nice body with good maltiness and clean bitter finish.

My nose is stuffed up today, but this is a nice florally hoppy red ale, with a nice hue. Don't know what happened to the Humboldt name, but this is marketed as a "Nectar Ales" product now ... interesting. Anyway, this is sweet yet bitter, with a slight malty tone. Very nice beer.

Appearance is certainly appropriate, that is being reddish and all. Good roasted sweet maltiness, some bitterness, clean finish. Not great, but quite enjoyable.

Bottle. Reddish/brown color with a good off-whiter head. Malty aroma with a little pine. Flavor has more hops than I thought. A little acidity and a little roastiness/nuttiness. There's a slight astringincey in the beer that isn't quite so smooth, but it's still easy to drink.

Nice and sweet with a smooth malty flavor. I could detect hints of caramel, cherries and apples. Overall very smooth and crisp.

A red or amber beer with a fine beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of straws, caramel, and hints of roasted bread. The flavor is of roasted malt and good hops - both aroma and bitter - with fruit and caramel notes in the middle. It ends on an OK bitterness. The body is a little thin.

Deep amber color with tan head. Head dissipates quickly. A nutty aroma. Flavor is hoppy but not bitter. Very smooth session beer.

This was a pretty decent beer. Poured a nice dark amber and was moderately hoppy. This would make a nice session beer in both taste and alcohol content.
