Didn't care for it at first and next time thought it was a clear winner. Perhaps a bad bottle first time? At any rate, has a nice body with good maltiness and clean bitter finish. Don't know what happened to the Humboldt name, but this is marketed as a "Nectar Ales" product now ... interesting. Anyway, this is sweet yet bitter, with a slight malty tone. Very nice beer. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA

Good roasted sweet maltiness, some bitterness, clean finish. Not great, but quite enjoyable. bb (2919), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 19, 2004 Bottle. Reddish/brown color with a good off-whiter head. Malty aroma with a little pine. Flavor has more hops than I thought. A little acidity and a little roastiness/nuttiness. There's a slight astringincey in the beer that isn't quite so smooth, but it's still easy to drink. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 18, 2004 Nice and sweet with a smooth malty flavor. I could detect hints of caramel, cherries and apples. Overall very smooth and crisp. Ungstrup (15259), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2004 A red or amber beer with a fine beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of straws, caramel, and hints of roasted bread. The flavor is of roasted malt and good hops - both aroma and bitter - with fruit and caramel notes in the middle. It ends on an OK bitterness. The body is a little thin. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 31, 2004 Deep amber color with tan head. Head dissipates quickly. A nutty aroma. Flavor is hoppy but not bitter. Very smooth session beer. Prostman (1077), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 28, 2004 This was a pretty decent beer. Poured a nice dark amber and was moderately hoppy. This would make a nice session beer in both taste and alcohol content.
