Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Tap at Rattle n Hum: Pours an amber/deep copper with a lacing off white head. Fresh aroma with some citruses and spicy cascade notes with a light crystal malt back. Light to medium palate. Smooth citrusy hops mesh with some crystal malt and has a mild resiny back. Simple, but solid.

Tap at Rattle N Hum. Deep amber coloured beer with a very thick, creamy tan head. Aroma is fairly malty with a light fruity/hoppy aroma. There is a touch of grapefruit and a lot of soft sweet maltinesss. Softly chewy with a light citrusy sweetness. Malts are sweet and fairly chewy with a very soft bitterness. It really is like the IPAs little brother.

Poured from Bottle into Pint glass. Pours a crystal clear glowing copper with a finger of creamy slightly off-white head that eventually leaves a nice layer atop the glass. The aroma is caramel and toasted malts with some dried fruit and sticky hops. The flavor is sweet malt upfront and finishes with a nice piney bitterness that lingers. Its medium bodied with light carbonation. The nose on this is fantastic and the flavor backs that up. Very tasty stuff, I just wish it was more widely available here.

Bottle. Clearish ruddy brick red pour. Mild hops, sweetish, mustardy aroma. Easy drinking, sweet, caramelly and lightly darkened body. Lots of crystal, a little bit of milk chocolate. Better than average Amber. I just bought this so I could give my mom the bottle because she likes bird things, so this was a pleasant surprise.
