Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Semi high foam that goes away fast to give a lace that stays. Reddish amber colour. Much american hop aroma with citrus and pines. A big hop taste but not that much bitterness.

12oz bottle. Great looking beer – pours a deep dark amber/mahogany with a one finger creamy tan head and decent lacing. Nose is floral hops and caramel. Taste is mainly caramel malt with some mellow hops in the finish. I guess it didn’t help that I had a DIPA prior, but this one is kinda bland. Medium mouth feel. Meh.

Dark red-amber color with a modest cream-color head. Good amount of lacing. Aroma is floral-piney hops. Malty-sweet flavor with some orange hop bitterness. Well balanced initially which transitions to a lingering dry bitterness on the back of the tongue.

On tap at 99 Bottles in Santa Cruz. Poured into a pint glass. Amber in color with a beige head of about 2 fingers’ height. Some lacing and decent retention. Aroma is caramel with some pine hoppiness. Flavor is malty and sweet; caramel and honey set the basis for the tangy citrus hops to lay atop. Smooth and easy drinking.
