Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Sample at Alan’s HSC initation, thanks Dogbrick: Amber pour, sticky frothy head. Thought by the label that this beer would be sweeter than it actually was. Aroma is caramel malt, trace of fresh flowers. Flavor is caramel malts, with a very light hop finish. A bit watered-down.

From a 22 oz. bottle purchased locally. Aroma is sweet, a little maly and some flowery hops. Appearance is coppery amber with a rocky light tan head. Flavor is a toasty, nutty maly character that has a little sweetness. A little roasted character in the finish. Hop bitterness balance the sweetness and a little citrusy hop flavor cuts through the malt. Clean on the palate, finish is dry. A well balanced amber that is very drinkable.

Pours deep amber, clody red. Little head, malty, caramel, floral, bitter nose. Flavor starts medium hop bitter, develops into light cream malt with floral notes, and hops. Nose isn’t so malty that it sets you off, which is important. Pleasant, rich, refreshing thick but flowing texture. Flavor is full good, malty, hoppy and welll, just good. Probably the only red worth buying again. Why? Because Firestone put hops in this one, one of the 4 essesntial ingredients of beer, according to the German purity law of fourten or fifteen hundred and some-odd what not, and kidmartinek agrees post haste. Beer has a malt aftertaste that is balanced by its’ hops.

Yeasty, hoppy, walnut nose. Clear brown color, no head. Dry and pleasantly bitter. Weak walnut finish. Not great, but decent regular brew for ABA lovers.

Great reddish amber color. Has a nice malt sweetness with a moderately hoppy finish. this is a really tasty one, maybe a little light bodied but I love the malt and hop balance in this.

Poured from bottle a chestnut brown with slightest red tint and a medium sized ecru foam head. Aromas of fruity hops sort of an apricot with some malt and a touch of roast grain. At first taste a nice malty sweetness comes through with some light roasted grains coupled with a very mild bitter hoppiness that grows somewhat. Nice beer, very drinkable and not overly filling. I will buy more.

Pours a red amber color with off-white head. Nice malty nose with some sweet roast to it. Flavor is full malty and sweet with just a touch of roast. Very straight forward amber ale that is smooth and easy to drink.
