Commercial Description:
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Very pretty amber, translucent-like...quick dissipating head ecru and pale pink...orange citrusy aroma with light malts...light and little bit of hops...silky body...light flavors of citrus and the malts....everything about this beer is mild and dainty like the hummingbird on the front, well balanced with soft lacing

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, Sweden) Clear dark copper color, tan head. Sweet malty scent with tones of chocolate. Sweet and a bit spicy taste with a harsh bitter aftertaste. Spritzy mouthfeel. Medium high somewhat too heavy bitterness.

This was one of the earliest beers I drank with serious interest back in the early 1990s, but I only occasionally drink it now. Although nothing special, it’s a good solid ale with a reddish copper body, a thin off-white head that dissipates to a very thin ring that lasts & leaves some moderate lacing. The aroma is faint toffee with some citrusy hops. The taste is nicely malty with caramel, some faint hop fruitiness, some hop bitterness near the end, but an overly dry, rough, watery finish. The palate is a bit thin and flat. It’s no longer among my favourites, but it’s still basically good, with a good mixture of malt and hops and good flavour.

22oz. Dark amber pour with a beige head. Loads of sweet malt in the nose. Flavor tends more to roasted malt with the slightest hint of fruit. Nice bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth but a bit thin.

Bottled. Pours a very still, golden copper colour. The aroma is overwhelmingly of hops, but nice. A light palate that seems a bit thin and watery to me.

12oz bottle-on tap-pours a thin bubbly light tan head and reddish/copper color. Aroma is citrus hops-earthy, medium malt-some caramel. Taste is some bitter citrus hops-earthy/spicy, some fruit, medium malt-some smokiness. OK/mild carbonation. Kind of a red ale cross with a hoppy-light brown ale.
