bulletrain76 (537), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jul 18, 2008 12oz bottle. Clear amber witha small and short-lived head. Some light nuttiness and caramel in the aroma, but has a processed, industrial twang to it as well. The flavor is rather light and simple compared to other viennas that I’ve had; a touch of cramel, but not much in the way of toastier malt complexities. Close to an American Dark, if you ask me, but it does have firmer hop bitterness that keeps it decently firm and crisp. Light and highly carbonated mouthfeel.
JesseM (365), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Aug 29, 2008 325mL bottle from the LCBO. Pours a nice amer colour with a medium off-white head. Aroma is a little odd, some okay tosted caramalt mixed in with looming macro-ness. Taste is actually decent, more of the toasty caramalt, which I like, but with a bit of a dull and unimpressive aftertaste. Nice slick almost oily, but not really, mouth-feel. I’m glad it’s not a huge let down, but I do wish I had more to say about it. The truth is there really isn’t much to this beer, therefore not a whole lot can be said. Probably the best Mexican beer I’ve ever had, but that’s not really saying a whole lot. It’s bland, inoffensive, and a flattering imitation of a real Vienna. As it warms is seems to get a little worse, with similar macro off flavours as you’d get in something like a corona. Lame effort but I’d still take it over a crappy pale lager from this brewer. I can’t believe this is the last available ’Vienna’ in my area. Weak LCBO, seriously weak. Get your s*** together. BigMook (7), tacoma, Washington, USA does not count Aug 29, 2008 This is good beer. Not great, good. I go along with the few reviews before mine. Caramel and lime. Great on a hot day. This is good beer, try it if it is on sale or during happy hour at your local mex restaraunte. Cheers! Ingevara (465), Hindås, Sweden Aug 26, 2008 Small tinted head. Served too cold and with lime. Like a watery lager with some drops of brown color. No hints of malt or hops. OK on a really hot day or to balance a really hot meal. MBison (374), Southern Highlands, Australia Aug 25, 2008 Bottle (330ml). Poured ruby cola with an averaged sized, rocky, tanned head which was mostly diminishing. Aroma was of raspberry cola with musty wheat, choc coated banana sweets and some toffee malts. Flavor was quite thin with sweet toffee malts, odd notes of figs, dried mixed fruits, caramel , molasses and a nutty finish. Light bodied with soft carbonation, a smooth/watery texture and an average finish. nbutler11 (135), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 24, 2008 I always drink this from the bottle with a lime at Mexican restaurants, but finally poured it into a glass yesterday for an overdue review. Pours a watery brown from the bottle with a respectable off-white head of foam. Lime on the nose with faint caramel. Loaded with the flavors of honey and caramel. Tastes almost like a Worther’s Original as it warms.
