Cask, Newark Fest 08. Copper with a small head. Aromas are toffee and biscuit malts with earthy spicy hops. Flavours are toffee malts with spices. Earthy and lightly burnt with hints of liquorice. Decent.

Cask conditioned at Thomas Rigby’s, Liverpool. Reddish amber with white head. Malty sweet fuller bitter, quite rich as Hughie points out and definitely fruity. A decent best bitter. Good stuff.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Amber, quite dark. Fresh fruit and cardboard aroma. Taste is rich, sweet grainy malt, beautifully balanced with sour fruitiness. Mid bitter. I thought this was a pretty near perfect English Bitter. I think Nethergate produce far too many beers: this is my twenty-second. Most are okayish. This one is the best by far.

Draft at the "Live and Let Live" in Cambridge - a splendid beer in a superb pub!
