iambeer (255), Ontario, Canada Apr 3, 2005 This gets a higher rating then Fullers by me a much better porter. Fruits hints, not too, too bitter. Awesome in my opinion. Wulfstan (434), California, USA Oct 11, 2007 This is a wonderful porter. From the bottle, it is a very deep, dark red-brown that is not quite black, and it has a thick, rich tan head that is longlasting, with fairly good lacing. The aroma is malty, earthy, sweet with a toffee element and faintly fruity. It tastes, malty, very toasty a little earthy, somewhat bitter, with a faint crisp tartness and definite, but mild and smooth chocolate finish. All round, it is a wonderfully rich, strongly flavourful beer, yet smooth, complex, and exceedingly well balanced, with no elements overpowering any others and all blending perfectly well, making it incredibly drinkable. The only down side is that the mouth feel is a tad too thin and fizzy for a porter. Otherwise, it’s outstanding. Sigmund (1896), Hafrsfjord, Norway Feb 12, 2002 Updated: Aug 13, 2008500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark colour, nearly black, reddish brown in the highlights. Decent tan head with good retention, leaves a nice lacing. The aroma has loads of malts, also chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, rye bread and coffee, hints of oak too. The flavour has much of the elements as the aroma, plenty of malts, chocolate and fruit, but also decent hops in the finish. A brilliant porter, and a true classic. KAggie97 (1884), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Jun 30, 2004 Updated: Nov 23, 2005I loved this one! This beer is a pleasure, from the first sip to the last. It’s not too overpowering, but at the same time, it lets its prescence be known. I can’t wait to get my hands on another one. Pablo McStouthead (69), L.A, California, USA Jan 26, 2002 Tasty. Oily. Good.
