In mouth, a nice lightly bitter chocolate, very sustained, with nice sweet honey in beginning, nutty notes. Medium bodied. Black body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head and some thick lacing. Boozy black and thick flavour has roasted malt and heavy wood undertones with a long aftertaste of tea. Full body. Good, but annoying aftertaste.

Don’t expect anything strong. The tea flavour is like a hybrid between Darjeeling and a Nestle Iced Tea. Rest of the body is fairly light, with a sweet tea-fermented doughy flavour (worst description ever!). Worth a try. MrManning (1655), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2009 On tap at the King Edward in Ilderton, ON- A very deep and dark opaque motor oil pour, almost black. Pours a frothy and long lived finger of mocha froth. Nose of cocoa, molasses, roasted malts, fresh floral hops, some coffee and some vanilla. Tastes quite sweet. Of chocolate covered coffee beans, honey, fruits, roasted malts, again with the fresh hops. This is very creamy and downright drinkable. A pleasant surprise on my latest visit to the King Edward. Thanks for getting this on Rich and Deb! This is the best beer from Neustadt thus far. blankboy (3250), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 28, 2009 Cask at Volo. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size mostly-lasting fizzy tan head. Slightly mild but pleasant aroma has a hint of red wine, mild roasted malt and green hops -- it’s almost Brown Ale-ish. Flavour of lightly roasted malt, light green hops and some coffee. The finish is iffy -- like black tea when the teabag was left in too long. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good overall.
