| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 24, 2005 Dark cola-colored body with a loose, rolling, and fast-fading sudsy light tan head. Aroma of roasted nuts, semi-sweet chocolate, and freeze dried coffee. Flavor has some nutty oxidized notes that remind me of peanut skins. Also tastes of chocolate candy and char with medium sweetness and light bitterness. Reminds me of Ovaltine. Mouthfeel is like chocolate soda plus a milky quality. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 30, 2005 Dark black body with ruby highlights from the light. The head is thick and frothy with a light tan color. The aroma is roasted coffe and some light roasted peanuts. There is also a little bit of funky grass. The taste is sweetened coffee. There is also iced tea and some light chocolate. Decent enough, but could use a little more body. BBB63 (4271), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2005 Bottle: Deep brown hue with reddish highlights topped by a small fizzy tan head and good lace. The aroma has notes of plum, caramel, rye bread, liquid smoke, dusty and earthy yeast esters, floral hops, and a touch of used coffee grinds. The taste starts surpisingly bitter and smoky with not near the amount of malt character I expected. Undertones of prune and cola. Finished off with a yeasty and bready aftertaste. The feel is lively enough and a bit mineral like. Overall, a good bier and something I rather enjoyed. A little Monastery Fun for all, much better than Black Abbot which was way too sweet. "I do not enjoy beers ", ...Please, people, rate the beer for itself, not personal style favorites.
You should be afraid, very afraid. Any beer that is labeled "Orignal Bathbeer Monastery fun" and you have to wonder about those monks. Sounds like they should have visited the nuns a little more often.
Appearance is great. Very dark. Tiny brussels lace bubbles for a head.
Aroma; roasted malt, coffee, and caramel.
Flavor is the same as aroma. Nice hop balance to the sweet maltiness. Nice medium to medium heavy body with a creamy feel.
