Aroma, picked up traces of dark bread, molasses, dark chocholate and a slightly burnt roast. Initial flavor was lightly sweet with above but also traces of maple syrup, vanilla and perhaps a bit of ruby port. Texture was somewhat creamy but also slightly watery, body was medium to full. Finish was below average in length with a slight bitter aftertaste to balance the initial sweetness along with a trace of alcohol. Overall this porter was okay, but left me wanting for more. I followed this up with a Bells Kalamazoo Stout which, albeit, a different style was much more satisfying. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, licorice, chocolate, and roasted malt. The flavor is also sweet with strong notes of licorice and roasted malt and lesser notes of chocolate and roasted malt. A lovely Schwarzbier - give me more of this. Stone smoked aroma with deep roasted malts, and dry molasses. Opaque body with a light tan head. Tastes like it smells. Well balanced. Very nice. Good flavor, but I wish it was colder. Beers of this style should be served between 54-57 degrees. It was more like 65-70 degrees. That’s a big difference. Outside of a beer you serve hot, the warmest you ever want a beer is 60-61% 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2005 Pours to a creamy beige head atop a really dark brown (near black) body. Decent fizzy lacing. The aroma is charcoal and orange flavored prunes. A bit weak, however. The flavor is a rich charcoal and dark roasted coffee and light orange oil and prunes. (Tastes better than it sounds). The palate is thick and rich. Full bodied, light creaminess and, fizzy. Has that charcoalish finish on the palate. The bottle is stamped 12 07 04, but it still tastes good. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 11, 2005 Deep cola brown. Nose chocolate, light smoke. Flavor is very vinous, quite rich, lots of deep fruitiness but not much roast-wise. Intriguing stuff, the lack of roastiness is nicely balanced by some light smokiness. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 10, 2005 This is far better than the regular "Schwarzer Abt" as the sweetness is more malty and less cloying (no added sugar in this one). Still, IMHO a bit too sweet for the style even though this is of course an extra strong version of a schwarzbier...
