What makes something a Baltic porter? It doesn’t matter to much to me because this is a decent brew. Thick and sweet, with a little smokiness. However, it has a pretty high amount of metallism in the finish, preventing it from being true top of the line.

Bottle at Cafe Amsterdam, Anchorage AK. Black as night but only a thin watery edge. Nice little burnt-malt aroma. Rich toasted malt with subtle smoke underpinnings. Outstanding.

Very good looking beer - (very) dark with analmost brownish head that leaves a nice trace in the glass. Extreme maltyness and chocholate in the aroma, which doesn’t make quite as strong an impression in the taste. Slightly sweet and very full. Very long and pleasant aftertaste again with hints of chocolate. Liked it a lot :)

500ml bottle - Pours black with a short tan head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is coffee and nuts and roasted malts. The flavor begins with roasted chocolate malts, some plum comes onto the palate next then a slightly sweet yet dry finish. On the palate this is medium bodied, low carbonation with an almost oily mouthfeel. Quite a unique porter. It was interesting to try a porter from Germany..

Pitch black colored with a small brown head. Sweet roasted and buttery aroma with chocolate notes. Sweet and thick butter flavor with some chocolate. All right, but the butter flavor gets cloying in the long run.

The body is black with the slightest hint of a ruby edge. This leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. The head is dark tan or light brown. The smells are roasted peanuts and very rich coffee. The taste is sweet cocoa, coffee and caramel. This has a fairly thin body for having a lot of flavor.

500ml bottle. Unique toasty, sweet, vinous and faintly smoky aroma, strong hints of black walnut and dried, smoked meat with lighter suggestions of dark chocolate, buttery cream, aged wood, red grape and turkish coffee. Black in color with red-brown highlights, a slight, fine, tan head and a broadly stippled lace pattern. Flavor profile is bittersweet and roasty to start, becoming infused with dark fruits and licorice before the lightly bitter, fully dry and moderately spicy hop finish. Palate is thin and gently acidic, body is medium-full. Some warmth noted long into the glass. Interesting and fairly challenging.

I wish I could recall where I got this from cause it is awesome. More hoppy with roasted grains than sweet with chocolate. Pours pitch black with just the faintest of red.
