Aroma is mildly smoky, but sweet like maple sugar encrusted smoked ham. Also holds some chocolate, fruitcake, rum raisin and coffee. Smells very pleasant. Body is dark brown to black with a diminishing pinky thin mocha head. Fore is brown sugar, raisins, mild smoked flavors, maple sugar and molasses. drinks like a desert beer and would cap off a meal of spiced Christmas Ham beautifully. iowaherkeye (1856), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 6, 2006 Had this guy a few months back and never got to rate it. Poured black with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, brown sugar, metal, and nuts. Very sweet smelling. Raisins come out in the flavor, with some (cherry?) tartness, more toffee than chocolate. Full-bodied, very low carbonation, very little bitternesss from the roasted malts. Pretty good, though not quite as good as I remember it. Tmoney99 (4742), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown pour with an average frothy brown head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate coffee and toffee aroma. Medium body with a creamy texture. Medium sweet roasted flavor with a sweet finish of moderate duration. I will look for more from this brewer. TimE (1301), Tokyo, Japan
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 30, 2006 Dark brown, off white head. Sweet malty nose with unmalted barley and corn syrup. VERY sweet mouth with whisky, caramel, hazelnut notes. Sweet malty finish. Overly sweet, but interesting. Surpringly went well with pickels (definetely the strangest combo I could have imagined). Decent aroma of dark roast, caramel and alcohol typical to Baltic’s. Full bodied with roasted malts up front, chewy middle and high coffee finish. Lighter Baltic Porter but still full 18 Plato. Not a particularly thick body among porters, but it is smooth and has a solid carbonation that lilts across the mouth. Caramelly, roasted, and rich flavors, with a milky edge and a hint of fruit. Dark brown. Enjoyable. argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 9, 2006 (500ml bottle) Small tan head atop a black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, roast, some coffee, chocolate, burnt, light smoke, metallic, cherry. Taste is sweet, chocolate, molasses, smoke, coffee, roast, light lemon, cherry. Smooth, sticky medium-full body with low carbonation. Better than the Black Abbot, but still too sweet -- reducing sweetness 40-50% and adding some carbonation would make this much better. As it is, I still could not finish it.
