A black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of caramel. The flavor is extremely sweet with notes of caramel and malt as well as hints of licorice.

A pitch black beer with a collapsing light brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, licorice, chocolate, and roasted malt. The flavor is also sweet with strong notes of licorice and roasted malt and lesser notes of chocolate and roasted malt. A lovely Schwarzbier - give me more of this.

(Bottle 50 cl) Completely black and opaque with a rich, beige head leaving laces as it dissipates. Rather sweet aroma of roasted malt. Rather full-bodied with sweetish accents of roasted malt - never burned though. Some alcohol in the finish. A rare German Porter. And even more rare: a GOOD German Porter. 060806

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours black and almost opaque - no head at all. Sweetish, roasted aroma. Very full-bodied and thick, almost tar-like with a high degree of sweetness. Lots of burned malt and a somewhat ashy edge. Rather subdued bitterness. Reminds me of an Imperial Stout. 270406

50 cL bottle. Pours deep dark brown to black with a minimal redish glare. Dense chocolate brown head. Dense roasted malt aroma - towards a dark breadish note. Flavour is mild spiced, solid roasted malt and a thick breadish flavour underneath. Mild spiced finish with a lingering roasted malt note.

Bottle. Pleasant, bready aroma with a hint of coffee. Almost black colour, small light brown head. The flavour starts off coffeeish and turns quite sweet with roasted notes and liquorice. Bready aftertaste.

Bottle. Black coloured with a beige head. Malty aroma with metallic and roasted notes. Sweet roasted flavour with malty notes. Too sweet for my liking. More schwarzbier than porter.

Black color. Breadish aroma, some malt, caramel. Sweet malty taste, some roasted malt and caramel, not too bitter, until the end. Not bad but not biting; quite unique in Germany.

(500ml bottle) Small tan head atop a black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, roast, some coffee, chocolate, burnt, light smoke, metallic, cherry. Taste is sweet, chocolate, molasses, smoke, coffee, roast, light lemon, cherry. Smooth, sticky medium-full body with low carbonation. Better than the Black Abbot, but still too sweet -- reducing sweetness 40-50% and adding some carbonation would make this much better. As it is, I still could not finish it.

Almost opaque black, practically no head. Aroma is burned malty. Sticky mouthfeel. Flavor of burned sugar - roasted, sweetish not very good balanced.
