Smooth initial taste with slighty smoky light toasty maltiness. Good hoppy finish that lingers just long enough. Braudog (3770), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Nice little burnt-malt aroma. Rich toasted malt with subtle smoke underpinnings. Outstanding. trevandjenn (20), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 10, 2006 Bottle from Super Saver that I am opening as I type this. The rating is very high, and that is good. The pour is dark blackish with almost no light through my desk lamp, and a minimal brown head. The aroma is heavy corn flakey malty, with some cacao, brown sugar, and molasses. The palate is rich and complex, with a great roasty dark patent malt flavor up front, giving way to a lot of chocoff hints, plus some molasses, prunes, slight cherry, and ovaltine. Very complex and well balanced, this is a repeater for next week. ChrisPants (317), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 9, 2005 Rich dark walnut-stain with tiny lacy head, smelling of chestnuts. Mouthfeel is light yeat meaty--rich in a cash-money, not a butterfat kind of way. Coffee, honey (a toned-down version of the uber-tasty Black Abbot by same brewers), and a touch of milk-porter. Finish introduces and then dismisses hops in a polite and professional manner. A very dynamic and impressive beer--with none of the 7+ abv showing at all. One of my new favorites. Huge malt aroma with wild rice and fruit. Flavor is complex with a great port flavor, fruit, malt, coffee, light chocolate, and a very good, mild acidic bite at the end. Excellent. Best at room temperature. FezMonkey (268), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
