I am not quite sure what they were going for on this one but it missed the mark by a long shot. I never knew something could suck and blow at the same time! BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | May 14, 2004 Nearly opaque with ruby highlights and small creamy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of burnt caramel and toffee malts, vanilla, fig, licorice, allspice and earthy yeast esters. The taste is very syrupy and sweet, no hint of hops to be found. Undertones are the same charcteristics of the aroma, burnt like finish. The mouthfeel is sticky and lush, awful aftertaste. This beer needs better balance. It got old quick and I dumped half the bottle. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2004 This bottled brew poured a small head of foamy finely sized light brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was nearly opaque with a dark ruby red brown color with no visible carbonation. It had a malty peanut butter aroma with a slight mustiness to it. The mouth feel was smooth with a licorice flavor in the finish. The flavor contained notes of licorice dark malts and raisins. The body was a bit on the thin side. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2004 Bottle. Poured a small tan head that was creamy and smooth and contained fine-medium sized bubbles that mostly diminished. This beer was uncarbonated and opaque with a reddish brown hue. The aroma was malty, caramel, some notes of chocolate malt, light hops and sweet. The flavor reminded me of root beer and licorice and I also thought the flavor was unbalanced. The mouthfeel was smooth and the texture was medium. The lacing was very sparse. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 5, 2004 Opaque dark brown, thick head that’s off white along with some sparse lacing. Plenty of raosted malts followed with caramel and toffee. Roasty flavors with molasses, brown sugar and some caramel. Thick body with a touch of alcohol in the finish. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2004 Dark brown color, tan head, good lacing. The aroma is lightly fruity with a good roastiness along with the lagerish qualities. The flavor is sweet with fig & boysenberries. Malty & roasty, very unique in a way I actually like. The finish is light bodied with a good amount of roast and sweetness still. Unbalanced. Ungstrup (15325), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Apr 3, 2004 Updated: Feb 7, 2005The aroma is that of a low-alcohol beer (even though this is not) - it is sour hoppy. The color is red and it has a small head. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel. All in all a boring beer. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 29, 2004 Again, not the greatest of this style that I have had the pleasure of tasting, but not bad overall. A little to acidic and unbalanced, but not terrible. Has some sour horse blanket issues going on in the aroma. The taste is slightly burnt, metallic and toasted. Big malt backbone, but unfortunately that is all that is has.
