Dark brown with a large creamy tan head whipped up like a milkshake. Aroma was somewhat sweet with malt and very little hops. It’s that first sip that did me in. So sweet that I just knew there had to be sugar thrown in there. Sure enough, on the label, inverted sugar syrup. Nasty. Just a sweetened mess of a beer other than the appearance. Pleasant aromas of raisin, roastyness, fruit maybe some wood. The taste then is awful!!!! Super sugar bomb with slight metallic taste. finishes sweet and sticky like brown sugar. Yuck!!! some wood on the way out. kappldav123 (1877), Markkleeberg, Germany

The flavour is very sweet with notes of candy sugar, malt and light hints of smoke and coffee. It’s a bit like Danish hvidtøl, but not as sweet as, and there is a light bitterness in the finish. Too sweet for me... Enjoyit (1746), Vadum, Denmark

Taste is chocolatey and sweet with coffee aftertaste. Barely any carbonation at all, but still oddly appealing mouthfeel. Most beers this dark and sweet have an overpowering alcohol taste , but this one has low alcohol so the flavors really stand out.Very unique beer. JoeinUccle (911), Brussels, Belgium
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Oct 23, 2007 An old monk’s recipe, my ass. Did the old monks use inverted sugar syrup? Because it says "Invertzuckersirop" right on the label. That would explain the cloying, chemical-ish, saccharine tang that pervades this beer’s flavor. Beneath the overpowering sweetness there is some malty chocolate notes and a cola like flavor and mouthfeel. But that nutrasweet layer is tough to get past. At least the beer is pretty. See? I found something nice to say.
