Commercial Description:
The ale is a hybrid of American two-row, English crystal and German beechwood-smoked malts; Target and East Kent Golding hops; and London ale yeast. The original gravity was 1.060, and the flavor is lightly smoky with just enough hops to balance.

Draft sample at New Albanian. Poured dark hazy brown color with average off-white fizzy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted and small smoke aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium smokeybittersweet flavor with a medium roasted smoke finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew and standout for smoked style. Very interesting brew.

On tap at Rich Os. Hazy pour that i lighter color than expected. I am still not really into this style. This was good, but I have not grown fully accustomed to the smoked meat quality of smoked beers. Nice and balanced though. All the smokiness is in the flavor. Hardly any in the aroma.

Tap: Not a bad drink, but I prefer my smoked beers to be a bit meatier. It poured a brownish orange with a substaintial head that pasted the sides of the glass with heavy lace. The aroma was a grainy caramel with a subtle smokiness. The smoke was a bit stronger in the flavor and the beer delivered a solid hoppy bitter kick in the finish. Not too bad.

gtmw 08.... medium caramel body with a thin soapy white head. poured out of a mini wooden cask barre.....saisony fruit aroma with some added smokiness.... flavors were woody, sweet, smoky, and toasty. not much of a port essence which is unfortunate.

On tap at GTMW, aged in a port cask for 7 months. Poured slightly hazy medium amber with a loose-bubbled off-white head. The aroma was sweet and smoky with toasted caramel and rich beechwood.. some vinous notes were quite welcome as well. The flavor had toasted smoked malts and caramel at the core with mild oaky and grassy bitterness.. long, dry, refreshing finish.. decent mouthfeel. I wish the cask provided more of an impression.

Aged in a port cask for 7 months, Great Taste ’08. Pours a hazed yellow with a white small looser head, dissipating. The nose is full of smoke, but it comes out entirely like lox, not that I’m complaining. A bit of malty sweetness, but not a ton. The mouthfeel is fuller than I’d expect for being in a cask. The flavor is dead on lox. A bit sweeter, and obviously maltier. Some subtle floral hops round it out. A wonderful beer.
