Burnt rubber aroma, smoked goat jerky and a sour Belgian yeast strain. Nice flavor rush, drawing out caramel and blonde bock tendencies underlined with traditional rauchbier smokiness. Vanilla and caramel sweetness. Chalky, yeasty resonance. A noble effort and fine rendition. barenada (211), Georgetown, Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2004 I’ve given this a fairly high overall rating based on just some of the many dozens of glasses I’ve had. This beer fluctuates quite a bit, but the "normal" flavor has a pretty good smoke taste with just the right amount of bitterness. A nice change from all the smoked porters out there. I’m looking forward to its return in the Fall. bu11zeye (5635), Frisco, Texas, USA

Lots of fruity malt flavors with a weird subtle, greasey smoke flavor to it. Tastey but odd. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 23, 2003 The head was small and tan with large bubbles and virtually no lacing. The body was brown in hue and it had a moderate malty aroma and also a smokey aroma. The flavor was bitter from start to finish in my opinion. The body was light and watery. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 22, 2003 This brew poured a small head of fine to largely sized light brown bubbles and a semi-opaque dark brown body. It has a very nice strong smokey malt aroma and a slightly smokey bitter start that smoothens in its finish. A very nice flavor with the smoke well balanaced and not too over powering smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 16, 2003 Draft Only: Dark orange with nice head. Light smoke in the nose. Maybe a little more smoke flavor than the first batch? Very nice and very drinkable. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 13, 2003 Draft: Rusty orange with a sticky off white foam. Lovely bready aroma, with notes of smoke, caramel, gummy candy, walnuts, and their traditional house character. Prickly on the palate with a medium body. Starts very fruity, follwed by cracker notes, and a touch of licorice. Finishes dry with an ingenius balanced interplay of hops and smoke with mild breadiness. Offers the best of both worlds and remains quaffable.
