rugbydude05 (280), Kew Gardens, New York, USA Jul 17, 2009 12 oz bottle, pours an opaque dark brown color with little head. Aroma at first is sharply hoppy and dry but later becomes sweeter and maltier. Flavor is bitter with a bit of sweetness, kind of roasty. Palate is average, kind of rough, but somewhat full body. Not a bad beer, but nothing special. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jun 18, 2009 Bottled. This says it was brewed in Saratoga Springs, not Utica, which makes me wonder if Olde Saratoga/Mendocino is doing the brewing/owns this now. Pours with pretty much no head, darkish brown-gold-amber. Aroma is syrupy, malty, sweet, bitter. Not much to the flavor, just a vegetal malty bitterness with a spoiled milk finish. Blech. Not really worth drinking at all. puboflyons (587), New Hampshire, USA Apr 27, 2009 From a 12 fl. oz. bottle no. 4123114080148. The pour is definitely amber with just about no head and light lacing. The aroma is fresh malts and slightly hopped. The mouthfeel is adequate. The flavor is about a 50-50 balance of malts and fresh hops. Slight aftertaste. It was not as good as I remembed it when I first had it in the late ’80’s but it was still OK. bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2009 this brew was okay. I tried it at a beerfest because I’d never seen it before. It was very ....forgettable. Nothing really stood out. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t that bad.
If your looking for run-of-the-mill beer. This is it. jimhilt (1662), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Oct 27, 2008 Pours a two finger cream head that fades quickly to a ring leaving no lace. Clear amber color. Hoppy nose. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor has some caramel which is quickly overwhelmed by the hops, finish is typical amber - hoppy and bitter. Bottle is labeled Amber Beer Single Batch but recipe is same as New York Amber from July 2002 - two row toasted malt with cascade and Hallertauer hops. $2.00 for a 12oz bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.
BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Apr 17, 2007 like it and always have! wonderful malt hop character. sometimes the carbonation is a little disappointing. always confused by what they called it and how it tastes. found a couple bottles at the gardenia deli. 8th ave 31st nyc. used to buy it by the case back when i was financially challenged. ddinneb (3), Sylvania, Ohio, USA does not count Feb 15, 2007 Very difficult to find in the Toledo OH area. After reading several reviews I feel that maybe some of the reviewers could give this brew another taste; this is the way I savor this brew… I assure a clean, thin walled pilsner glass slightly chilled. I prefer the Amber Ale to be around 45 degrees and poured to create a head about 1 inch. (not difficult) the color is so inviting and a pleasure to serve to a friend as a treat. Whenever I go to the NYC area I bring home 2 six’s and savor each. A golden, smooth, creamy head, with a rich taste that stays with you. Thanks for reading! Cletus (4999), Connecticut, USA Jan 26, 2006 Pours orangey with a decent white head. Smells malty with some citrus and pine hops. Taste is lightly malty with some rosey elements.
