Slipstream (734), USA Oct 20, 2009 This was a favorite of mine back in the 1980s, one of the first microbrews I can remember trying. It was popular for a few years, but then the quality declined, and it began to disappear from the refrigerators of New York City corner stores. I am not sure where this resurrection is coming from (the label looks a little different from the one I recall), but I welcome it, because this is a good brew, and it deserves a higher rating. Fruity, fully hopped ale aroma. Dark amber pour with an impressive head. The taste is dry, a little sharp, and well hopped, with some nice esters. This is a fine brew, very much in the tradition of the New Amsterdam that I remember. goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Jun 28, 2009 Hazed copper pour with a large off-white head. Caramel aroma with light hops. Sweet caramel flavor. Dull. Light bodied. elihapa (1028), Honolulu, California, USA May 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazel brown with a medium white head. Aroma of caramel malt and toasted wood. Palate is average. Primary flavors lean heavily towards burnt malt, emphasizing roasty flavors that are matched with a semi-sweet body. Bold, flavorful brew that reminded me of Bass Ale. blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Apr 13, 2009 bottle poured a light amber color with a thin white head. aroma has caramel sweetness, bitter hops, and some grains. light mouth feel and a malted body that has some washed out bitter hops. the sweetness is certainly on the high side. Cletus (4999), Connecticut, USA Mar 10, 2009 Pours redish copper with a thin tan head. Smells of caramel and vegetal. Tastes sweet and caramelly with an earthy finish. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Feb 17, 2009 no way i am not getting in on this one, i drank too much of it. used to get it from a shop rite liquors in ridgefield that is now a Korean mall and i will say that mall does have some decent and different beers. anyway it was hoppy for the time yes mostly dishwater hops with a slight tinge of pine cone finish in that profile. low in malt and with a touch of dark fruit like cherry and the dishwater was the dry i suppose. i was rather proud of my discoveries as this was man... probably 20 years ago. crazyvin (1245), New York, USA Jan 26, 2009 labeled as single batch pale ale. A decent amber ale, a nice amber body that did not have much of a head. Aroma had big pine notes snf dome caramel notes, but mostly hops. Flavor was good but one dementional hop flavor with some caramel notes. A smooth but very thin finish. A good session beer. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Jul 8, 2006 had at Hops House Brewpub after the Shiner brewery....Pours a dark honey colour.. low head..ok lacing..strong stale honey smell...tastes abit like a honey marzen and a old bitter mix. i had the beer with a green label, i think this is it.
