Roasty malt mixed with coffee and charbroil. Decent but not my favorite. Alcohol felt very mild. I don’t mind roasty dark ales but this wouldn’t be my favorite, especially drinking it by itself. gsteph (266), knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 15, 2008 Blackened pour with ruby tinges. Thin tan head with spotty lacing. I could tell from the pour it would be a watered down brew. Aroma is strong but boring. Blackened malts, chocolate, a little cocoa, maybe some oak. Nothing really jumps out. More chocolate in the flavor, bitter cocoa, biscuit dough and charred wood. Body is thin and watery. Slightly bitter finish. It’s not bad, definitely drinkable. Hell, I’ve got worse swill in my fridge. Nothing jumps right out and grabs you. It’s simple and average. esjaygee (1600), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA

Taste of chocolate, sweet malt, cocoa with a nutty dry finish. The best thing about this one was the garbage field goal that Florida kicked to cover by a half point against Miami of Florida! Dark clear brown pour with burgandy highlights and miniscule light tan head. Sweet caramel aroma, flavor is malty and biscuity. Aftertaste is a bit cloying. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 7, 2008 22 oz Bottle. Deep dark color with malty coffee and chocolate scents. Crystal clear-no haze at all. Not much in the nose. Latte colored head leaves a blanket as it dissipates. Interesting flavor. The coffee malty chocolate flavors are there but not immediately. The first flavors are round and sweet like a brown ale. That aspect fades quickly and is replaced by the complex bitterness. The side of the glass is filthy with lace cling-ons. I like this one a lot. swillguzzler99 (19), Glendale, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2008 Pours a deep brown with a beige head that persists. Nose is of dark chocolate with a possible coffee hint. Taste is more of the same. It’s bitter in a baking chocolate way. Aftertaste sticks around a bit too long. Not bad, but not the best either. k9coug (41), USA

The finish ended rather quickly, rather surprising for such a heavy hitting brew, but not at all dissapointing. Wouldn’t drink two back to back.
