Poured a very dark brown, with subtle red undertones; an off-white head, which dissipated; subtle lacing. Smells of that classic New Belgium cereal smell, roasted and caramel-y, with a very, very slight sourness. Tastes of coffee; cereal; grasses or hay; and dark, overly ripe fruit. Mouth feel is dry, almost powdery (?!). A fine beer for drinking while - or rather in place of - studying for law school finals. Ah, priorities.... Block (379), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Black pour. Medium body and crisp on the palate. Flavor of caramel and pale malts. Sweet and balanced. BrewingFan (81), Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Pours what appears to be black, but up to light it is a bit translucent, very clear beer. Head is nice and frothy, takes a few minutes for it to subside. Aroma of chocolate and coffee with a touch of earthy hops. Medium-full bodied with a thin, creamy texture. Flavor consists of malty chocolate with medium sweetness and a hint of bitterness. Cleans up real well on the finish. Overall I think this is a great beer. Easy to drink. uet very tasty. The flavor is sweet, chocolatey, and finishes dry with a bit of smokiness. Drinks like a porter. Overall, a solid beer for a good price. AR (435), Georgia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2009 22 oz bottle - Roasted malt, sweet nose. Lots of bittersweet chocolate on the palate, but immensely satisfying. Super clean and light bodied, but it only serves to accentuate the great malts. Dry and long finish that begs for another sip. "highly quaffable" indeed.
