Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

This is a refreshing change of pace for most winter brews out there. The Malt flavor is awesome, it’s clean but has plenty of flavor. Good balance of toastiness and sweetness. Just enough hops for me, perhaps a little low for the style, but I think that’s what the beer is going for.

I love the taste of this beer. From the creators of Fat Tire. A personal favorite.

12 oz bottle. Pours copper with a big pillow head and nice lacing. Aroma is sweet maltiness. A roasty, pepper, and nutty flavor that dominates, however, you can taste the hoppiness in the back of the palate. You can also barely detect hints of cherries. Medium mouthfeel, mild bitterness finish and definitely a winter warmer. It is interesting that it is an ESB, but somehow NBB makes it work.

Pours medium brown with off-white head. Nose is brown sugary caramel malt, some X-mas spices, mild nuts. Medium bodied palate with the flavors above and a decent complexity. Not a bad take on this style, which.

Used to start the ski season off with a 12-pack of this devoured inbetween runs. Amber pour, white head, hoppy aroma with some winter spice. Taste like a Fat Tire but with more of a spice that gives it a better kick.

Poured a nice dark amber with a thick off-white head. Faint but pleasant aroma of hops, citrus and some spice. Flavor is similar to Fat Tire, but with a little more citrus flavor and some sweet spice (nutmeg?). Solid, but not spectacular.

A better version of Fat Tire. Pours with a small, foamy, light brown head covering a clear bronze body. Hoppy and biscuty aroma with some raisins and pepper (smells a bit like a dog treat, but not in too bad of a way). Taste is biscut malts and pretty salty with a sweet finish. No bitterness anywhere to be found. Syrupy mouthfeel when servered at the recommended 37*.

Thanks to Soonah. 12OZ (New Belgium) bottle. pours clear, amber color. Foamy white head. Delicious hop aroma. The smell makes my cheeks all giggley. Flavor is a crisp malt. Very balanced. Tasty and delicous. I wish it was winter year ’round.
