Commercial Description:
Pull on your wool socks and crack open a 2° Below Ale. This tasty winter warmer started life as a small batch beer brewed for the Al Johnson Uphill Downhill – a telemark ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado. The Uphill Downhill celebrates the exploits of Al Johnson, letter carrier extraordinaire, who delivered mail by ski in the late 1800’s. Dry hopping during fermentation creates a floral nose with a hint of pepper and spicy, subtle undertones. 2° Below provides a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow.

12 oz bottle poured a clear amber with a thin beige head. Aroma of grain and toasted malt. Flavor is grainy with a hint of hoppy bitterness. Easy to drink

Clear amber body with a small offwhite head that drops into some flecks of lace. Muted aroma of toasted caramel and earthy hops. Hop bitterness dominates the taste with an earthy feel. Toasted caramel balances well. A pedestrian ESB, overall, but nicely drinkable.

Thanks lb4lb. Clear amber pour, small white head. Aroma is toasty with a hint of caramel. Flavor is caramel, brown malt, a touch of biscuit, a hint of chocolate and some hop bitterness. Not sure where this was going but it didn’t go very far. Thin mouthfeel and just a flavorless beer.

Aroma of toast and citrus. Pours with moderate head, welcoming light amber. Taste is straight grain, orange peel, and a hint of dark choclate and an unknown herb. The body is full for a lighter ale and is perfecty fizzy. This a great winter beer without being a dark beer, quite a feat.

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 12, 2008. Thanks to LawStudent09. Gold color with no head. Aroma of cardboard. Musty grain and toasted malt flavor. Seems like a lighter version of Flat Tire. Blah.

I’m not sure what to say about this one,. I’s a bit bitter in the flavour, aroma is pretty bland. Not much else going on.

Bottle. Pours copper with a shortish white head. Smells grainy with light hops. Has that New Belgium flavor that all of their brews seem to be infested with I can’t but my finger on it but it turns my stomach a little. This is not my idea of a good winter ale but it isn’t terrible.
